Two Garda Public Order Units were deployed to clear protesters who had staged a sit-down protest on O’Connell Bridge

A total of 22 people were arrested after anti-immigration protesters blocked the O’Connell Bridge in central Dublin leading to travel chaos for commuters on Thursday.

Hundreds of people gathered outside the GPO on Dublin’s O’Connell Street for an anti-immigration demonstration on Thursday afternoon. Dozens of Gardaí are in the area between the demonstrations to ensure rival protesters are kept apart, and Garda Public Order Units have been deployed to the scene.

Sixteen people have been charged following protests in Dublin city yesterday. The charges include possession of a knife, assault and criminal damage. 100 Gardaí were drafted in yesterday evening to deal with anti and pro-immigration protests in the city centre.

SIXTEEN PEOPLE ARE to appear in court charged with public order offences at a protest in Dublin yesterday. Gardaí had arrested 22 people yesterday as part of a policing operation in response to an anti-immigration protest in the city centre.
